How to find us

We stand on the northwest corner. Look for the group of people holding signs on the grass by the road.

What to expect

About 50 people came the first week, on Friday, September 4. Some stayed the whole hour. Many came for a few minutes on their way home from work. Other people drove up and dropped off water, Gatorade, and snacks.

  • Where we stand. On the grass and the sidewalk at the corner. We do not block the road, the crosswalk, or any store.
  • Cars honk. Most drivers honk and wave. A few yell. We do not yell back.
  • Some people do not agree with us. They stand on the other corner. Stay on our corner. Do not cross the street to argue.
  • It gets hot. There is almost no shade. Bring water and a hat. People usually bring water and snacks to share.
  • Signs. Bring one if you have one.
  • People take pictures. Reporters, drivers, and the other group all take pictures. If you do not want your face in a photo, stand in the back, wear a hat and sunglasses, or hold your sign up in front of you.
  • Come and go. You do not sign up. You do not join anything. Ten minutes helps.

Why we are here

ICE agents came to Seymour and Jackson County the week of August 31. They arrested people and took them away. We do not know how many. ICE has not explained what it did here.

We stand on this corner so people can see us. We want our immigrant neighbors to know that there is much more love for them here than hate.

Qué esperar

Unas 50 personas vinieron la primera semana, el viernes 4 de septiembre. Algunas se quedaron toda la hora. Muchas vinieron unos minutos al salir del trabajo. Otras personas llegaron en carro y dejaron agua, Gatorade y comida.

  • Dónde nos paramos. En el pasto y la banqueta de la esquina. No bloqueamos la calle, el cruce peatonal ni ninguna tienda.
  • Los carros tocan el claxon. Casi todos tocan el claxon y saludan. Algunos gritan. Nosotros no les gritamos.
  • Hay personas que no están de acuerdo con nosotros. Se paran en la otra esquina. Quédate en nuestra esquina. No cruces la calle a discutir.
  • Hace calor. Casi no hay sombra. Trae agua y una gorra. La gente casi siempre trae agua y comida para compartir.
  • Carteles. Trae uno si tienes.
  • La gente toma fotos. Los reporteros, los que pasan en carro y el otro grupo toman fotos. Si no quieres salir en una foto, párate atrás, usa gorra y lentes de sol, o pon tu cartel enfrente de ti.
  • Ven y vete cuando quieras. No hay que registrarse. No hay que unirse a nada. Diez minutos ayudan.

Por qué estamos aquí

Agentes de ICE vinieron a Seymour y al condado de Jackson la semana del 31 de agosto. Arrestaron a personas y se las llevaron. No sabemos cuántas. ICE no ha explicado lo que hizo aquí.

Nos paramos en esta esquina para que la gente nos vea. Queremos que nuestros vecinos inmigrantes sepan que aquí hay mucho más amor por ellos que odio.
